PLN 1

Karl Fisch, a teacher at Arapahoe High School, created a short slideshow informing the viewer about the world we live in and how it is shifting into the future.  The slideshow included facts ranging from population growth to economy health to the rapid development in technology.  China has the highest population but as their population increases with 244 babies born about every six minutes, India’s population expands by 351 babies born in the same amount of time.  In 1900 England had the highest standard of living, education standard and was the world’s center of innovation but those titles have been redistributed to other countries.  Technological achievements like the amount of new technological information doubles every two years and in the next few years a supercomputer will be made that can exceed the capacities of the human brain.  This informative video was only a peek at our futures but with all the possibilities, we may never know what we are going to face.

I was caught off guard when we watched the short video “Did You Know?” by Karl Fisch.  Initially when I heard that we were going to watch a short video made by one of the teachers at Arapahoe High School I was expecting an entertaining short film that helped a student learn something in whatever subject the teacher taught.  Instead I got a reality check that so many people, including me, were in the dark about subject matters such as these.  I assume that the purpose of the video was to make the viewer more aware of things happening in this world and thats exactly what it did for me. The most surprising facts in his video were the ones regarding the population of China and comparisons with the United States and India because I had no idea of the intensity of the job situations in those countries.  Though I was not prepared for this video mentally, it was informative and served its purpose.
